Bali is well-known for its paradise-like coastline, rice paddies, and powerful waterfalls. The mountains of Bali is where the real beauty of this island is hidden. Munduk is a quiet, cooler, green region, in the north of Bali far from the packed streets of Seminyak and Canggu. It is common to take a day trip to here but spending a few nights allows you to experience all the things to do in Munduk, Bali.

When you think about Bali, you probably think about stunning waterfalls, great beaches and interesting temples.
Unfortunately most people only visit the south of Bali and don’t go up north to the Munduk area. While the south is floated by tourists, up in the north you only find a few. How to get there

The best way to do this daytrip is to hire a private driver. Munduk is a little hill town located in northern Bali and the end of the little road trip. In total it takes about 2 hours of driving, but with several stops a bit longer.

Taking a Ubud taxi is the only direct transfer option and is easily the most convenient. Distance about 65km The journey shouldn’t take more than 1hour 50 minutes in normal traffic and should cost a set fee of 40 € ( IDR 600K ). What to See Between Ubud and Munduk

✔ Coffee Plantation

Our first stop was a coffee plantation. I don’t remember the name, but you can find lots of them in this area. The activities there are quite similar to the ones around Ubud.
You get a short private tour first, then you get to try different coffees and teas and at the end you can buy some if you want.
The coffee plantation, I’ve been to, had a really nice view of rice fields and vegetable plantations.

✔ Pura Ulun Danau Bratan

The next stop was the most famous temple in Bali. It is located on a lake at the bottom of some mountains. Different to the south, there were also local tourists and even a school group visiting the temple.

✔ Handara Golf Resort Gate

This gate is well-known by Instagram users. Gates like this are the entry of every town in Bali and look really cool in my opinion. Since it is so popular, thanks to instagram, you have to wait a while to get a picture. But it’s worth it.

✔ Take a swing at the Wanagiri Swing Viewpoints

A mountain range which is the start of the Munduk region offers quite an impressive view of two connecting lakes named the Twin Lake. Many viewpoints like bridges, swings, and cafes offer their panoramic view for a small fee. The swing showcased in the photos is named Wanagiri Swing.

✔ Waterfall

This stop was probably the best stop of the whole daytrip. It’s really hard to get there, especially with a car. The roads are really small and tiny and one car filled the whole “road”. When you finally arrive you have to walk a little path through the jungle.
It was really loud, not just because of the waterfall, also because of the animals. This waterfall was such a difference compared to the famous Tegenungan Waterfall. It was really natural and we were the only two people there. Unfortunately you can’t swim there, but you get wet anyways.

✔ Munduk

Munduk is a little hill town and the end of this daytrip. You can enjoy the view of many rice fields and there are still many locals. It’s also possible to stay there for a night or more to explore more of northern Bali. If you want to get back to Ubud, it takes about 2 to 3 hours, depending on the traffic.

A daytrip to northern Bali is absolutely worth it, if you want to see a different Bali. If you have the time, it’s also nice to stay in Munduk and explore the still hidden nontouristy spots.
